Obituary

ALBRECHT, Orie John
Orie passed away peacefully, Monday, February 5, 2024, at Hospice Waterloo Region surrounded by the love of his family; with his wife at his side. In the midst of our grief we give thanks for Orie's release from the grip of a diagnosis he lived with for over 5 years, facing it with such courage, strength and acceptance. Orie will be lovingly remembered by Sandra, his wife of 54 years; his children and grandchildren Pamela Albrecht and David MacLaren and their children, Abigail and Maggie; Angela and Bruce Rohr and their children, Samuel and Jonas, Andrea Albrecht and her son Joshua and his partner Melissa; Lisa Albrecht and Nick Blackburn and their children, Daelia and Tilly. Remembered by his siblings Larry, Sherman and Lorna Blair; brothers- and sisters-in-law Joyce and Wayne Leis, Cheryl and Rodney Erb, Darrell and Shirley Ropp, and Nancy Ellen Nafziger. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Lorne and Emma Albrecht, mother- and father-in-law Ivan and Mildred Ropp, brothers-in-law Kevin Ropp and Jim Blair, niece Ginger Ropp.
Orie was born 81 years ago in Wellesley Township at his maternal grandparents' home. Orie grew up on a farm where he loved to work alongside his father. His love of farming was evident through many of his hobbies, which included collecting model tractors and visiting farm shows and events, and led to his first job at a Feed Mill. Orie was a hard worker. In addition to being a longtime employee of JM Schneiders, he drove the Rockway Bus from Milverton and offered regular help at his father-in-law's hardware store. After retirement, he drove truck (he maintained an AZ licence throughout his life) and worked at Home Hardware.
Orie was a faithful member of Wellesley Mennonite Church where he served in various roles, and actively participated within the church community. He was an enthusiastic volunteer at the New Hamburg Thrift Center, working in the recycling department. Orie was passionate about his hobbies and loved going to toy shows and auctions to grow his collections of model cars, trucks and buy fine China for his wife. He was an avid photographer and loved reading about various historical topics. He took great pride in attending any and all sports and activities in which his beloved grandchildren participated.
Orie's family extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lumsden, Dr. Kuk and the staff at Grand River Hospital for the exceptional care they provided to him throughout his journey with cancer; and to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Waterloo Region for the compassionate care they provided to him and his family in his final days ensuring his passing was peaceful.
Visitation will be held at Wellesley Mennonite Church, 157 David Street, on Friday, February 9 from 2-4pm and 6:30-8:30pm. A celebration of life will be held at Wellesley Mennonite on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2pm. Donations can be made in memory of Orie to Hospice Waterloo Region and Wellesley Mennonite Church. The service will be live streamed. Please visit the funeral home website for service link.
