ZEHR, Nelson J.-Passed away peacefully in his sleep at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Nelson of Wellesley in his 90th year. Beloved Husband of 69 years to Barbara "Barb" (nee Roth). Loving Father of Wayne and Doris Zehr of New Hamburg, Dory and Kevin Bearinger of Baden and predeceased by his son Roy (1983). Dear Grandfather of Keith and Candice Zehr of Tavistock, Ryan Zehr of Tavistock, Derek and Victoria Zehr of Listowel, Ashley and Brandon Wysman of Cambridge and Alyssa Bearinger of Baden. Proud Papa of Jordan, Landon, Nathan, Madi, Adam and Leah. He will be sadly missed by many extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents William S. Zehr and Druscilla Bender. Nelson was born and raised in East Zorra Township.
After marrying in 1952, Nelson and Barb farmed in Wilmot Township every single day for over 70 years. In his words "I Loved Every Minute Of It." In his retirement, he relived his childhood, working the land with his horses. He was a member of the antique tractor club and enjoyed driving from town to town to meet other members. He enjoyed giving sleigh rides to family and friends on the farm and driving one of his antique tractors in the Wellesley Fall Fair parade.
Nelson and Barb enjoyed travelling together to Europe, Hawaii, Vegas, and many other places and trusting the dairy herd to his children. He was an active member of the Schmidtsville coffee club and seniors club. In his pastime, he like to tinker and fix antique tractors in his shop. Nelson was a faithful member of Steinmann Mennonite Church.
Friends may visit with the family at the Futher-Franklin Funeral Home, 1172 Henry Street, Wellesley on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment of will take place at St. Agatha Mennonite Cemetery, on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 1 p.m. followed by a Service of Remembrance at Steinmann Mennonite Church, 1316 Synder's Road W., Baden at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Steve Drudge and Pastor Sara Erb officiating. The service will be live streamed, and the link will be on Nelson's web page.
