Obituary

LEIS, Mervin P.-After a long and fulfilling life, enriched by love and joy, the family of Mervin Leis at the age of 92 years, sadly but also with content announce his quiet passing into God's loving arms in the early hours of Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Trinity Village LTC, where he resided the past four months. He formerly was a resident at Winston Park for approximately five years. Before that, Mervin and Lois were long time residents of Wellesley.
Lifelong soulmate to his loving wife Lois (Boshart) with whom he shared over 71 years of marriage, filled with love and dedication. Loving father to his two sons and their wives, Brian and Shelley, Tim and Joanne. Predeceased by Elizabeth and Bruce in infancy. Grandpa to his four granddaughters who were very close to him, Christine (Don), Jessica (Justin), Deana (Callan), Erica (Brent). In recent years he became a proud great grandfather to Maya, Bronson and Eloise. He is also survived by his sisters-in law Laurene Boshart and Joan Boshart (Paul d.2013). Predeceased by his parents Peter and Veronica (Fan) Leis, his brothers and their wives, Nelson and Mary Leis, Ralph and Sarah Leis. Mervin is survived by his foster brother Joe Scott and his wife Lorraine.
Thru out his entire life, he had a strong faith and belief in God and the church. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Crosshill Mennonite Church where he served on many committees. Mervin was a kind, gentle and devout family man. Never one to judge but had great tolerance and acceptance in all situations. He loved to watch his sons play baseball and hockey and even helped coach them at times. He also loved to watch his granddaughters (which he truly adored) play sports and participate in school events.
He and Lois loved to travel and went on many bus trips across North America with close friends. Also loved spending summer vacations with family. Together he and Lois volunteered for many years helping to run the breakfast booth at the Apple Butter and Cheese Festival. Mervin was a longtime fan of the Blue Jays, Maple Leaf's and Kitchener Rangers. He worked in his early years at the Forsyth Factory in Wellesley after which he became Head Custodian at Linwood Public School. With Lois by his side, together they were there for 27 years, developing long lasting friendships with staff and students. One of his biggest enjoyments was playing guitar and singing in the Greenwood Hill Bluegrass Band. For over 20 years, they played at many places. This was a true joy for Mervin. The family would like to thank the staff at Winston Park and Trinity Village LTC, for their exceptional care to Mervin during the time he spent in each facility.
