GERBER, Melvin G.-Peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Innisfree House, Kitchener, Mel of Wellesley in his 75th year. Mel leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Joy. Sadly missed by his children Karen and Ron, Cheryl and Don, Brian and Lisa, Bonnie and Dave. Loving papa to Christine (Andrew), Stephanie (Stefan), Kaitlyn (Jake), Brent, Melissa (Kevin), Amanda, Connor, Tyler and great-grandchildren Blake, Brielle and Austin. Survived by his loving brother Nelson and his wife June and brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Gerber, Merlin and Norma Lichty, Anna and Harold Gerber. Predeceased by his parents Ezra Gerber and Adeline Gingrich and his brother Mahlon. Melvin and Joy spent seven years in Thunder Bay working with the Aboriginal community and leaves behind many friends in the northern community. Mel was very active in Maple View Mennonite Church as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. He was instrumental in starting the Wellesley Apple Jacks hockey team and remained with the team for many years. Very special thanks to Dr. Finn, Dr. Yew and to Donna, you were fantastic with your love, care and being there to help with the transition to hospice. Sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Innisfree House for their loving care. Friends may visit with the family at Maple View Mennonite Church, 5074 Deborah Glaister Line, Wellesley, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the church on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
