With the love of his life holding his hand, Martin crossed the finish line after his longest and most challenging race. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife and best friend, Sue; their children, Alex, Laura and Daniel Metrailler; his parents, Gloria and Bill; and his sister, Linda Popovich, brother-in-law Alex and nephew Philip. Martin will also be remembered by many dear friends, including the members of the Blast Triathlon Club. Martin inspired us all with his heroic feats of athleticism, completing five Ironman competitions (in Canada and the U.S.) following a diagnosis in 2003 of incurable cancer. He conquered that disease in countless ways and, in the eyes of everyone who loved and admired him, emerged victorious. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Tozer, Dr. Scott Nash, Teri Durney Crockford, Jane George and the many wonderful health care providers at Juravinski Cancer Centre and Bob Kemp Hospice. A reception will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Wellwood Cancer Support Centre, 501 Sanatorium Road, followed by a memorial service for family and close friends (seating is limited.)
