BENDER, Marie (nee Wagler)- Passed away at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, January 28, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Born May 30, 1925. Married 65 years to Earl G. Bender who predeceased her in 2014. Beloved mother of John (Joanne) Bender, Audrey (Norm) Henderson, Mary Bender, Carl (Judy) Bender, Robert (Val) Bender and Murray (Judy) Bender. Remembered fondly by grandchildren Karen (Jan) Althaus, Marc, Lisa and Michael Bender, Mary (Brendan) Jaekl, Dave (Karen) Henderson and Janice Henderson, Andrea (Ian) Cattryse, Chris Bender, Matt (Kelly) Bender, Joe, Katrina, Will and Wyatt Bender, Aaron, Amanda and Lauren Bender. Great grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew and Amelia Jaekl, Alexander, Isabelle and Theo Henderson, Jacob Bender and Fiona Althaus. Predeceased by parents Amos and Emma (Brenneman) Wagler; brothers Dan, Omer and Norman (Esther) Wagler; sisters Edna Ropp and Eileen Wagler, brothers-in-law John Dyck, Elmer Ropp, Fred (Violet) Bricker, Ammon, Ed and Marcus Bender. Survived by sisters Vera Dyck, Deborah (Joe) Zehr, Esther (Roy) Scheerer, Florence (Anders) Bergsma, and sisters-in-law Mary Wagler, Viola Wagler, Verna (Aden) Snyder, Marion (Bender) Leis and Jean Bender. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Marie was born and raised near Nithburg in Wellesley Township, lived most of her life with her husband Earl and their family in Crosshill, and spent the last 5 years at Nithview Community. She was a faithful member of Crosshill Mennonite Church. Marie was dedicated to her family. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and handwork, oil painting, reading and playing Scrabble. She had many friends who, along with her family, appreciated her for her hospitality, interesting conversation, thoughtfulness and love of people. Visitation is at Nithview Community. New Hamburg on Saturday, January 30th from 10 am to 11 am. Visitation will continue at Crosshill Mennonite Church on Saturday, January 30th from 2 to 4 pm and 7-9 pm. A concert involving Marie's family will be held as previously planned on Sunday, January 31 at 3 pm at Erb St. Mennonite Church, Waterloo. Visitation will continue at Crosshill Mennonite Church on Sunday, January 31 from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11 am at Crosshill Mennonite Church, conducted by Pastor Brent Kipfer. Donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, SIM (Serving in Mission) or Nithview Community.
