Obituary

WAYWELL, Iva A.-Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the age of 91, at Briarwood Gardens in Brantford, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Kelvin Waywell (2016). Mother of Amy Hedden (late Carl Hedden), Reid Waywell, Scott Waywell (Jana Heber) and Beth Alvarez. Dear Grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Charles and Anna May Manwill and eight brothers.

Iva was a woman of small stature, but great influence. Many lives were influenced by the service and compassion she had for others. Uplifting others during their struggles and trials, bringing not only food but also a kind ear to listen to their thoughts and worries. Visiting the elderly in the hospital or giving wise council to teens over a game of darts. Being a kind and wise lady that teenage youth could reach out to, both family, church and neighbourhood. She could listen tirelessly to others letting them know that not only did they matter, but that they were loved. She was a true example of Christ like love.

During her years of working at McMaster University, she was known for being a kind, knowledgeable advisor who could direct both student and new faculty in the right direction. No nonsense, but with a mother’s heart, wanting to see you succeed. Raised a small town farm girl, she knew how to work from sun up to sun down, She taught us honesty and hard work by example. Combine that with her love and service, she was the best we could have hoped for. We learned from Dad that if we could operate up to her standards, we would do okay. A woman of love, a woman of service, a woman of faith, a woman of God.

Friends may visit with the family at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 461 Park Road N., Brantford on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the church on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Copetown.
