LEBOLD, Howard William-On Friday, July 31, 2026, Howard peacefully passed into the welcoming arms of His Savior and Lord. Howard was born 92 years ago on June 8th,1934. While the last few months were a struggle for Dad, he lived a full and rewarding life. For the first part of his working life, he was running bulldozers and backhoe for a construction company. He then switched careers and went to work for Erb Transport, where he drove until he was well into his eighties. He loved the open road and the challenges it had for him. He always found a way to get a load that would allow him to stop wherever his children were going to school or living. He was married to Audrey (Roi) for 54 years before she passed away in 2011. Their commitment to Christian service led them to Northern Ontario with the Northern Youth Program. They were there one year until they moved back to settle again in Stratford. While in the North, the infamous story grew about how they went up north as two and came home as three, expecting their first child (Dan). Two years later, they had their second child (Twila). While in Stratford they often had foster children living with them. One child (Sarba) eventually became a part of the family. They attended and were active members at Avon Mennonite Church in Stratford for many years. In order to be closer to family Dad moved out of Stratford in the fall of 2022 and settled into Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo. The last six months of his life he spent at Nithview Mennonite Home in New Hamburg. Ironically, a mere block from Erb Transport.
Dad loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to gospel hymns and sermons while trucking. We would often get into one of his vehicles, and the radio or CD player would be blaring hymns at high volume. He loved people and enjoyed meeting new people.
He will be eternally and lovingly remembered by his children, Dan and Maryanne Lebold, Twila Lebold and Ray Boehm and Sarba and Andrea Broderick. He had a huge impact on and loved his grandchildren Derek Lebold, Justin Lebold (Emma Sysiuk), Brett Lebold (Deanna Lebold), Jonah Boehm (Sherydan Jones), Joesph Boehm, Maryn Broderick, and Caleigh Broderick. He also loved his great grandchildren Atlas, Stella and Adelaide.
He will be remembered by his sisters Mary Ellen and Glen Zehr and Ruth Anne Pugh. He was predeceased by parents Sam and Emma Lebold and in-laws Simon and Catherine Roi, Sister Katherine and husband Ken Roth and brother in-law Donald Pugh. sisters-in-law Elnora (Noah Roth, Reg Carter), Floretta (Julius) Lichti , Ada (Alvin Steniman), and brothers-in-law Ken Roi (Doris), Louis Roi
As a family we want to extend our thanks to the staff at Parkwood Mennonite Home for the care dad received while living there. We also want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the management and nursing staff at Nithview Mennonite Home for the last six months of his life. Your genuine care and support to make Dad comfortable did not go unnoticed.
