WEIKMANN, Emma-Peacefully surrounded by her family, at her home at Beechwood Retirement Manor Waterloo, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Emma (nee Habres) in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Joseph (2002). Loving mother of Lucy (Hans Pregel) of Bellenberg, Germany, Amy (Tom McLennan) of Glen Morris, Joe (Janet) of RR#2 Petersburg, John (Lena) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Linda (Russ Straus) of St. Agatha, the late Mary in infancy, Irene (Steve Cook) of Wellesley and Albert (Lorianne) of Georgina. Dear grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Johann Habres and Theresia Ihle, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Emma was born in 1927 in a small town in Southern Germany. She was the youngest in a family of 8 living on a small farm. Growing up during a depression, and years of war had a significant impact on her.
Emma emigrated to Canada in 1951 after a rather arduous 14-day boat trip across the Atlantic. After marriage, followed by a honeymoon in Niagara Falls a farming life continued in Dunnville Ontario with the addition of 6 children. Then came the move to a larger farm near St. Agatha Ontario with one addition to the family. Life on a dairy farm with 7 children provided a rather hectic life over the next 21 years. After that 16 years were spent in the town of St. Clements with a more relaxed life of retirement. Many new friends and card games became part of her life.
After her husband Joseph's passing in 2002 Emma moved on to a new home in St Agatha to be closer to family. Emma spent the last few years of her life being catered to in Beechwood Manor making many new friends and enjoying lots of card games and puzzles. Being part of the Catholic Community and an active member of the CWL she enjoyed many hours quilting and playing cards, which was an important part of her life.
She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, holding a special place in their hearts.
We are all comforted with the belief that she is now in a better place. Rest in Peace Mom, Grandma/Great Grandma. We love you!
