SCHULTZ, Dennis-It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis “Sarge” Schultz, who passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, July 20, 2026. Dennis was born on April 30, 1953, in Wellesley Township, Waterloo County, and spent his life building not only roads and foundations, but also lasting friendships and a stronger community. On October 28, 1977, he married the love of his life, Patricia, beginning a partnership of nearly five decades built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Dennis was the proud father of Sheila (Adam Klages), Carrie (Christopher Gerdes), and Kim (Brandon Taylor). Nothing brought him greater joy than being “Grandpa” to Ruthie, Evan, Angel, Ethan, Zachary, Hazel, and Ellie, who truly lit up his life. He is lovingly remembered by his brother Duane (Sharon) Schultz, his brothers-in-law Norman Kehl, Terry (Laurie) Hanley and Dan (Ruby) Hanley and by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel & Beatrice Schultz, his siblings Ronald (Beatrice) Schultz, and Florence Kehl, his mother and father-in-law Jack & Helen Hanley, and his sister-in-law Karen Steinfeldt.

Known affectionately as a “hole-ologist,” Dennis spent his career as an excavator operator, a trade he began as a teenager. Whether behind the controls of heavy equipment or restoring and enjoying tractors of every size, he had a lifelong appreciation for machinery and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Service to others was at the heart of who Dennis was. He dedicated more than 30 years to the fire service, serving in many roles including firefighter, maintenance officer, deputy chief, and chief. He was always willing to share his knowledge, mentoring others as an enthusiastic driving instructor, helping everyone from new car drivers to operators of large trucks gain confidence behind the wheel.

Dennis believed that helping your neighbour always came first. His generosity, quiet kindness, and willingness to lend a hand touched countless lives and left his community stronger because of his presence. When he wasn’t working or volunteering, Dennis found peace on the G2G Trail, enjoyed time at the family cottage in Sauble Beach, and was happiest spending time at home with those he loved most.

Friends may visit with the family at the Futher-Franklin Funeral Home, 1172 Henry Street, Wellesley, on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. A family graveside interment will take place at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many physicians, nurses, first responders, therapists, and caregivers who cared for Dennis throughout his illness. Your compassion and dedication meant more than words can express. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis’s memory may be made to the Linwood Fire Department or to a charity of your choice supporting cancer services or lung disease research.

Though his steady hands have been laid to rest, the lessons he taught, the kindness he shared, and the love he gave to his family and community will live on forever.
