HERGOTT, Clare Stewart -April 27, 1941-April 4, 2016
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Clare Hergott, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend on Monday, April 4, 2016 in his 75th year. Clare will be forever in the hearts of his wife and soul mate of 50 years, Sylvia (Horne); his children Brent (Julie), Janice (Gerald), Paul (Janice) and Patrick (Celine); and grandchildren Maelin, Claire, Jack, Matthew, Jair and Ethan. He will be dearly missed by his brother Ronald Hergott (Chris), brothers-in-law Steve Balan and Leo Horne (Audrey) and sisters-in-law, Margie Horne, Carol Zinger (George) and N.J. Wagar. Clare was predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Marietta (Reichert) Hergott, his brother Ross and sister, Mary Elizabeth Balan. Clare was a yard foreman in the building supply business for many years before becoming a commercial trailer mechanic. After working at Erb Transport for 16 years, he retired to his workshop where he created unique folk art designs for family and friends. Clare was a devoted member of St Agatha RC church. For close to 50 years, he enjoyed life in Wellesley, attending dances with Sylvia at the Community Centre, playing slo-pitch and "Board of Trade" hockey and volunteering at the Apple Butter and Cheese Festival. Dad worked hard for our family, providing us with idyllic small-town childhoods, a strong sense of family, a love for reading, a zest for travel and an appreciation for a well-played practical joke. With the unconditional care of his beloved Sylvia, Clare lived with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, for 10 very full years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Drs McCarron and Casey for their expert care; our sister Janice for her research, counsel and grocery runs; Ziggy, Donna, Hector, Kevin and Uncle Ronnie for their support; cousin Sue for "Friday Flicks" and Aunt Carol for many "Happy Drives In The Country". Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at Futher-Franklin Funeral Home, 1172 Henry Street, Wellesley on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will take place at St Agatha RC church, 1839 Notre Dame Drive, St Agatha on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
